THE CRIMSON TRIANGLE

BY John Fife • POSTED ON May 1, 2024

In Fife’s supernatural thriller, a research mission turns deadly when scientists unearth an ancient evil.

For centuries, the Bermuda Triangle has been notorious for its disappearances, mysterious deaths, and scientific anomalies. Stories of violent creatures emerging from the sea to draw seagoers into a watery grave are common but unproven. Now,American marine biologist Eliana Escarra (who served in Iraq) and her team of top scientists are on a mission to a specific part of the Triangle—the Puerto Rico Trench—to find answers to these mysteries. Down in the ocean depths, the team finds strange creatures and an ancient structure etched with mysterious lettering. They take a sample of rock from the area, but they’re hit by a malevolent force (which a crewmember describes as “This darkness. The scratching. The shadows”), and they barely escape with their lives. Back on land, they go over the samples, but their research is interrupted by disturbing news: Beachgoers in Puerto Rico are disappearing or becoming victims of mysterious lethal attacks. It appears that the evil of the Bermuda Triangle has moved onshore, and the U.S. government sets Eliana and her team on a new mission to find a way to stop this new menace, and, if possible, to destroy it with new weaponry aboard their ship. Over the course of this thriller, Fife creates a compelling tale of an initially unseen menace, with connections to Bermuda Triangle folklore. The horror is further enhanced by well-crafted prose: “Somewhere in the distance, a scream tore through the eerie silence, its source hidden by the mist’s suffocating embrace.” Overall, Fife expertly creates a dark, forbidding atmosphere in a fast-paced, unpredictable narrative, and the stakes only get higher as the monster’s power grows. Eliana’s determination to defeat the team’s unknown enemy is undeniable, and their heroism drives the story to a thrilling ending.

An enthralling horror novel with unexpected twists and turns.
