Sheldon continues Lola’s story begun in Confessions of a Drama Queen (1999). Frustration fills her life as she struggles to get a part in a movie, having told her friends and enemies, prematurely, that she already has one. Lola (real name Mary) aspires to be a great stage actress. Her frustration begins when her mother insists she must attend Brooklyn College instead of London’s Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. When Lola learns a movie will be shot in town she concocts devious plots to throw herself into the path of the director, despite her previous disdain for films. Every plot backfires. Worse, her sneering arch-enemy gets a part and the run of the set. As Lola’s plots get wilder, she and her friends get into further trouble. Can she learn from her mistakes, and perhaps achieve a more satisfying victory than she had wanted? Comedy reigns as the silliness mounts in this first-person narrative that should provide lots of laughs. (Fiction. YA)
