ARE YOU MY DADDY?

In this interactive hide-and-seek adventure, Walt the Walrus searches the zoo for his daddy.

As Walt starts his hunt, he thinks he spies his daddy’s mustache, but there is a tab for readers to slide here, revealing a Daddy Penguin with bushy eyebrows instead. Several subsequent pages incorporate textures into the images; on them, Walt finds a lion with a “shiny mane,” a goat with a “furry goatee,” and a monkey with a “hairy face,” but no Daddy Walrus. He continues to search, finding all sorts of daddies—a Daddy Zebra, Koala, Elephant, Panda, and Pelican—all hiding under flaps on one busy page spread. When he returns home, Walt suddenly finds his daddy, and the two exchange some words of love that, while sweet, feel forced and tacked-on. In fact, the entire narrative feels both haphazard and text-heavy; however, the illustrations are cheerful and warm, and the tab, textures, and flaps invite participation in Walt’s hide-and-seek adventure, a game little ones will certainly recognize and enjoy.

It’s in no way exceptional, but this interactive title will keep toddlers entertained in a pinch.
