Liz likes the green hills surrounding her new home but is too shy to make friends with the country children. Her tiny dog, Pip, is more adventurous: When he disappears during one of his explorations, the neighbor children offer to join in what becomes a lengthy search, happily concluded when Pip is discovered singing along with the village choir. Meanwhile, Liz has made lots of new friends. The rather long text of this warmhearted story is also appropriate for young readers; Moore's skillfully drawn, full-color illustrations of Liz's cozy fireside and the pleasant British countryside glow with vitality.
