MISS DOG'S CHRISTMAS TREAT

In the wake of the overindulgent Emily Pig of Yummers (KR, p. 110, J-30) waddles Miss Dog, decked out in red and green for her annual Christmas party, but unable to resist gobbling up all the goodies before the guests arrive. As "last year Miss Dog's friends were furious," she vows this time to hide everything immediately upon her return from the candy shop. By the time she goes to bed, however, Miss Dog is so tired from stashing sweets in all sorts of unlikely high and low places that "I think I deserve a little treat for working so hard." This time there is one box of candy which she doesn't consume in advance because she can't find it, but readers who take Marshall's closing hint ("think of Miss Dog's clumsy tail and look back through the pages") will observe it being swished unheeded into a large urn. Meanwhile however that nougat of recognition is almost lost inside the frosting.
