Via one family's visit, an introduction to 20 varied animals and to the zoo itself. On each double spread, a single species is shown in several different positions and/or activities, providing both a fuller sense of the animal and a pleasingly rhythmic design. An endpaper map adds to the experience. Although the idea is hardly new, Ormerod's skillful composition and deft draftsmanship make this an unusually attractive book for small children.
