A clotheshorse of a rooster struts his stuff.
The rooster is delighted when the skinny jeans he ordered online arrive at the barnyard, and he can’t wait to show them off to the other animals on the farm. None of them wear clothing, and the rhyming text details that they aren’t particularly impressed with his fashion sense. In fact, they ridicule him and his “chicken legs,” which makes him retreat to the coop to reassess his new look. “What’s not to love? Are they being sarcastic? / These jeans are amazing; my butt looks fantastic!” reads a humorously contemplative scene. And with that, the rooster heads back outside to deliver a confident crow, causing the other animals to admire his pluck. A closing scene depicts the glam bird ordering a new “gold sequined vest” and delivering a parting laugh for readers. Throughout, the bouncy, rhyming text is matched in tone by bright, cartoon illustrations that amplify humor around the message.
An effective, funny picture-book paean to individuality.
