All sorts of animals join in a game of peekaboo.

Little ones are encouraged to guess which animal is hiding behind its paws in this simple lift-the-flap board book. Hints are given to help readers along ("I swing from the vines / and play in the trees. / I have a long tail / and hang by my knees") on verso. On recto, readers see a smiling animal’s face, paws covering its eyes. When they lift the flap, little ones are given the answer ("Peek-a-boo! Monkey!"). The flaps are easy to manage and strong enough that they won't be torn off after a few reads. The warm, round illustrations provide a soothing tone, making this a perfect late-afternoon read right before naptime. The book also provides a pleasant variety of animals, not sticking to one setting, such as the farmyard or under the sea, but instead ranging all over the animal kingdom to include bear, monkey, lion, penguin, hippo, tiger, and fox.

There’s a reason peekaboo is such an enduring game, and this printed riff should see plenty of use.
