The classic song gets put to the page.

Mary Mack, her “good friend Drew,” the goose, and the duck are all here in this beautifully illustrated rendition of the quintessential nursery song, with a few variations. In this version, Mary Mack watches a duck, not an elephant, jump the fence, and new character Drew, “with purple laces, laces, laces / tied in his shoe, shoe, shoe,” extends the merriment. There is even a mashup of sorts going on, as after jumping the fence, the duck and the goose start playing—you guessed it, “Duck, Duck, Goose.” Little ones will clap along and appreciate the bold childlike artwork. Parents will enjoy introducing their young readers to a song they loved themselves. The handsome binding is both eye-catching and sturdy. Families will surely add this one to their stacks of favorites. The book works as a lulling lapsit as well as an active read, making this suitable for any time. Companion titles Do Your Ears Hang Low, If You're Happy and You Know It, and A Sailor Went to Sea, Sea, Sea are also available.

An excellent take on an excellent song.
