THE FLYING CARPET

One of the 1001 tales from the Arabian Nights- the story of the Princes Husayn, Ali and Ahmad and their quest for the hand of Princess Nur-al Nihar- is retold with a direct simplicity from the Burton translation and illustrated in swirling, glowing eastern line and color by Miss Brown. In her pictures, which show a study of the art of the period and a retention of her own style, she has used the full panoply of colors judiciously. The results might have been heavy; instead they are vivid and should give children a sense of delight as they go to read the rest of the tales. Very firm spine.
