“Look! Look!” says Baby Panda, pointing out the window. His mother sees two burglars breaking into the house next door. She calls the police and a furious chase ensues, with burglars, police, and firefighters swarming through the house, then landing in a grand pile at the foot of the stairs. Lost in the “make-believe world of his computer,” older sibling Little Panda remains oblivious to the ruckus, even when the whole parade streams across his bed, out his window, and back in again. Foreman’s watercolor illustrations are inventive and humorous, with cat burglars in striped shirts and black masks, blue-suited rhinoceros policemen, and firefighting monkeys hanging onto their speeding truck with prehensile tails. Still, the one-joke story is clumsily written; Little Panda’s oblivion—his immersion in the pocket-size computer—is obvious in the pictures, making the text’s references to it jarring and obvious.
