A young monkey illustrates the power of doubling in an ingenious early math title. Monkey has a pizza delivery job and many transportation problems. He starts off on a unicycle, but quickly graduates to a bicycle, then a car, each time doubling the number of wheels on his vehicle from one to sixty-four. As new troubles arise, monkey travels in a tow truck, a freight truck, a car carrier, and a train, until he finally delivers the pizza by hot air balloon. Short, simple sentences and rhyme that includes the new number make this a delightful romp for young readers who will also enjoy counting all the wheels, whether by ones, or for a challenge by twos. Haskamp’s lively paintings fill the pages, cleverly designing each illustration so that at least part of every wheel is visible. And if readers have trouble counting the wheels on the vehicles, they can count the wheels bordering the pages instead. Nicely delivered. (Picture book. 3-6)
