A gimmicky, overbusy book with a handle and a Velcroed-shut cover provides limping verse to accompany the packing of a small child’s backpack. Each spread features one lift-out piece that fits into the background, puzzle-wise. Labeled for children 3-5, this effort fails all audiences—the toddlers it will attract but mystify (and perhaps endanger with small parts) and the preschoolers who need and deserve more complexity in their books. Part of the My Little Bag series.
