Gomer is a golden retriever who carries his stuffed animal, Little Gomer, with him wherever he goes. Gomer goes to the park every day with his dog walker, Donna, and a group of six other dogs. When Gomer loses Little Gomer in the park, he’s devastated and no longer wants to play with the group. One of the other dogs, Chi Chi the Chihuahua, initially teases Gomer, but Chi Chi comes around and eventually finds Gomer’s toy for him. The two dogs become friends and the next day Gomer brings an additional stuffed animal, Little Chi Chi, for his new friend to play with. Though the story line is simple, preschoolers with attachments to favorite toys or blankets will relate to Gomer’s dilemma. The neon-bright illustrations in saturated colors provide visual punch with lots of canines in motion, and Gomer is an appealing character, as is his stuffed Little Gomer. (Picture book. 3-5)
