WINTER IN WHITE

A Mini Pop-up Treat

As a visual bonbon for holiday giving or display, Sabuda offers a small, Christmas-themed stocking stuffer. Linked by a short verse extolling winter’s whites and “the peaceful sounds of nature’s gifts,” the eight pop-ups—all of them different from those in his Christmas Alphabet (1996) and Night Before Christmas (2002)—are bright white, with the occasional glint of silver or gold foil, and set nicely into abstract one- or two-color backgrounds. The twirling skater is particularly impressive, but from the opening whirl of snowflakes to the closing view of a pair of doves tying the bow on a gift, this brims with seasonal joie de vivre.
