Maurice Sendak's very entertaining pictures- all kind of round and angly and spidery at the same time- are perfect for Ruth Krauss's verses. Together they show just what goes on inside a little boy's mind- inside his dream house full of monkeys and a clown and a big old lion who all get together and start making the most wonderful opera of noise. The play on words, the build up of activity gets to a rousing climax and then, quite suddenly, comes back down again, "Bung"- to earth. Better, and closer to young imaginations than last year's A Hole Is To Dig.
