MONKEY DAY

Monkeys and more monkeys, presents, parties and paper hats are skillfully blended in a merry lap-sized book by the practised hands that gave us Bears, etc. Here are a little girl who loves monkeys, and the wedding of monkeys and flocks and flocks of baby monkeys. Phyllis Rowand must have had fun doing her engaging sepia drawings of the curly-tailed and large eyed monkeys and their frolicking capers. Such books, made up of elements young children cherish, are fun and make them want to be able to read. Fine reading for first and second graders, too. Not unlike Millions of Cats, this is for a distinctly older group than the author's earlier works.
