On the prowl to snag hot dates to the quickly approaching Earthquake Ball, best friends Zoe and Chloe hatch what they think is a foolproof plan. However, in their quest for the perfect escorts, they find themselves caught in several zany and over-the-top situations that test and strengthen their friendship. A secondary story line involving Zoe’s older sister adds a serious element to this tale and provides both a sense of balance and another dimension to the girls’ growing relationship. Thick with British slang, geography and products, this text opens a window into teen life across the pond, although there are a few sections where readers may find themselves making a quick double-take to decode some of the girls’ dense dialogue as they crack insider jokes. Although at times Zoe and Chloe’s antics seem slightly far-fetched, this silly romp will certainly charm young teen readers. (Fiction. 12 & up)
