Bartoletti and Giacobbe collaborate again in this lively sequel to Nobody’s Nosier Than a Cat (2003) and in fact, the starring cat from that work plays a supporting role as feline foil in the sequel. Each spread introduces a different dog engaged in a characteristic canine behavior, with a short, structured text that strings together descriptive vocabulary in a lighthearted and novel way. As Bartoletti introduces these dogs one by one, another story is taking place in the background as the brown hound dog shown on the cover chases the black cat all over town. The dog catcher chases and finally captures the hound dog, leading to a reunion with the dog’s young owner in a satisfying conclusion. Bartoletti’s bouncy, poetic text is well matched with Giacobbe’s playful pooches, complemented by creative text placement and varying fonts that match the cavorting canine conduct. (Picture book. 3-6)
