The taboo attraction between a police academy recruit and her instructor turns increasingly complicated.

New York City Police Lt. Greer Burns knows better than most how becoming emotionally attached to someone leaves you open to pain. He learned this first when his mother left his father, his brother, and him and then again when his partner was killed in action. He’s also a stickler for the rules and has never before been tempted by a recruit. He’s rarely tempted by women at all. “I don’t get involved with women. For very good reasons. It’s a rule that has served me well. All the rules serve me well....” But something about Danika Silva pushes all his buttons. Along with his brother, Charlie, she’s one of the best recruits he’s ever had. She shares an apartment with Charlie and her best friend from childhood, the gorgeous and until recently feckless Jack. Since Jack and Charlie have paired up with women they love, it’s made both Danika and Greer restless. A relationship between them is off-limits since he’s one of her instructors, but neither of them can ignore the pull they feel toward each other. When they finally give in to temptation, Greer formally requests a dispensation to pursue a relationship with her. His record has been so stellar that it’s approved, but in the meantime, Danika unwittingly puts herself in danger, reminding Greer that getting close to anyone is a bad idea. This terrific series continues to entertain, buoyed by great writing, a unique setting, and a tough-yet-vulnerable cast of characters that comes alive on the page.
