MRS. BROWN WENT TO TOWN

``When riding her bicycle down the street,/A terrier tasted Mrs. Brown's feet.'' That's the innocuous beginning of Mrs. Brown's troubles; a bicycle crash leads to a stay in the hospital. Meanwhile, back at her farm, the animals are jubilant as the cow, two pigs, three ducks, and a yak vote to move into the house. Yee's lighthearted illustrations match his verse, which chronicles an astonishing upheaval: The animals try on make-up and clothes, flush the toilet (100 times), raid the refrigerator, and generally destroy the house. Before the animals are done, Mrs. Brown will have reason to move permanently into the barn. First-rate silliness from the creator of Big Black Bear (1993); the more improbable the situations, the more readers will be laughing out loud. (Picture book. 2-7)
