The nominees for the 2024 Golden Globes were announced Monday, with Oppenheimer leading the pack of literary adaptations up for the annual television and film achievement awards.
Christopher Nolan’s film, based on Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin’s Pulitzer Prize–winning biography, American Prometheus, received eight nominations, including ones for best picture–drama, best male actor–drama (Cillian Murphy), best supporting female actor (Emily Blunt), best supporting male actor (Robert Downey Jr.), and best director (Nolan).
Oppenheimer was followed closely by two other film adaptations: Killers of the Flower Moon, based on David Grann’s nonfiction book, and Poor Things, based on Alasdair Gray’s novel. Both earned seven nominations.
Killers of the Flower Moon gained nods for best picture–drama, best female actor–drama (Lily Gladstone), best male actor–drama (Leonardo DiCaprio), best supporting male actor (Robert De Niro), and best director (Martin Scorsese). Poor Things earned nominations for best picture–musical or comedy, best female actor–musical or comedy (Emma Stone), best supporting male actor (Willem Dafoe and Mark Ruffalo), and best director (Yorgos Lanthimos).
Other films based on books to be nominated include The Zone of Interest, based on Martin Amis’ novel; American Fiction, an adaptation of Percival Everett’s Erasure; and Nyad, based on Diana Nyad’s Find a Way.
On the television side, nods went to adaptations of Anthony Doerr’s All the Light We Cannot See, Taylor Jenkins Reid’s Daisy Jones & The Six, Thomas Mallon’s Fellow Travelers, and Bonnie Garmus’ Lessons in Chemistry—all in the category of best limited series, anthology series, or TV movie.
The winners of the awards will be announced at a live ceremony to be aired on CBS on Jan. 7, 2024.
