Twentieth Century Studios has dropped the first trailer for its upcoming film adaptation of Warren Zanes’ Deliver Me From Nowhere: The Making of Bruce Springsteen’s Nebraska.
Zanes’ book, published by Crown in 2023, tells the story behind Springsteen’s seminal 1982 album Nebraska, which shocked listeners with its stripped-down production and dark themes. A critic for Kirkus wrote of the book, “Even those who aren’t convinced that Nebraska is Springsteen at his best will hear it with fresh ears.”
The film adaptation of the book, titled Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere, is written and directed by Scott Cooper (Crazy Heart) and stars Jeremy Allen White (The Bear) as Springsteen. Other cast members include Jeremy Strong, Paul Walter Hauser, Odessa Young, Gaby Hoffmann, and Marc Maron.
The trailer for the film opens with White sitting in a Chevrolet at a car dealership. “That’s a 305 V8,” a salesman says. “It’s awfully fitting for a handsome devil rock star. I do know who you are.”
“Well, that makes one of us,” White responds.
Later in the preview, White sits in a bedroom, playing “Nebraska,” the opening track on the album. The song plays over shots of White looking at a box of old photographs, riding on a carousel, and, in flashback scenes, practicing boxing with his father and dancing with his mother. The trailer ends with White and actors playing the E Street Band on stage, performing a rousing rendition of his 1975 song “Born to Run.”
Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere is scheduled to open in theaters on October 24.
