Elin Hilderbrand stopped by CBS Mornings to talk about the Netflix series adaptation of her novel The Perfect Couple.
Hilderbrand’s novel, published in 2018 by Little, Brown, tells the story of a wealthy Nantucket family who is hosting their son’s wedding. When a drowned body is found, the family and their guests all become murder suspects.
The Netflix adaptation is directed by Susanne Bier, and stars Nicole Kidman and Liev Schreiber. Kidman and Hilderbrand are among the show’s executive producers.
On CBS Mornings, Hilderbrand discussed seeing one of her books on the screen for the first time.
“In 24 years, this is [my] first book that has been made into any kind of screen adaptation, and I feel like I hit the jackpot,” she said. “Nicole Kidman, Liev Schreiber, Dakota Fanning, Eve Hewson, Meghann Fahy—I mean, the list goes on and on.”
Asked about the changes between the novel and the series, Hilderbrand said, “I wanted them to make the best television show possible, so it didn’t matter to me. Whatever they wanted to change, I gave them carte blanche. I wanted to watch good TV. I watch a lot of prestige television. I wanted to watch a good show, and they really did it. It’s amazing.”
