Adrienne Young will release a fantasy novel for adult readers next year, People magazine reports.

Saturday Books will publish Young’s Fallen City in the autumn. The book will follow Luca Matius, a legionnaire, who falls in love with Maris Casperia, the daughter of a magistrate. Their romance threatens to destroy their home city of Isara.

Young made her literary debut in 2018 with the young adult fantasy novel Sky in the Deep, which, in a starred review, Kirkus called “a rousing saga and moving coming-of-age tale.” She followed that up the next year with a sequel, The Girl the Sea Gave Back. She is also known for her Fable series of books, which began in 2020 with Fable; the most recent book in the series, Tides & Drift, was published in February.

“Writing in the adult fantasy space has allowed me to explore themes and questions that I relate to on a deep level, and it's been a challenge that I have found creatively energizing,” Young told People. “My hope is that readers feel that connection too, and turn the last page with a little more empathy and grayscale thinking I believe our world desperately needs."

Young announced her new novel on Instagram, writing, “This isn’t a light & fluffy adventure story. It can’t be summed up with genre labels or chili pepper emojis. This book is for readers who want to go on a journey, who want to ask big questions & bear witness to a divinely tragic love that will rewrite destiny.”

Fallen City is slated for publication on Nov. 4, 2025.
