The Apple limited series adaptation of Laura Dave’s The Last Thing He Told Me has added Aisha Tyler as a cast member, Deadline reports.
Dave’s novel, published last year by Simon & Schuster, tells the story of Hannah, a woman whose husband disappears and leaves her a note asking her to protect his 16-year-old daughter from a previous marriage against an unspecified threat. A critic for Kirkus wrote that the book was “light on suspense but still a solid page-turner.”
Hannah is played by Jennifer Garner in the series, while Tyler, known for her work in Ghost Whisperer and Criminal Minds, will play Hannah’s childhood friend, Jules. Other cast members include Angourie Rice (Mare of Easttown), Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Game of Thrones), and John Harlan Kim (The Librarians).
Olivia Newman (Chicago Fire) is directing the series, which is being adapted by Dave and Josh Singer (First Man). Dave, Singer, and Reese Witherspoon, who selected Dave’s novel for her book club last year, are among the show’s executive producers.
Tyler shared news of her casting on Instagram, writing, “Man I’m thrilled excited to [be] telling this story alongside this extraordinary team. Can’t wait for the world to see it!”
Last week, Dave noted on Instagram that it was the first anniversary of her book’s publication.
“More grateful than I can say for that and more excited than I can say that yesterday we started production on the limited series starring @jennifer.garner as my dream (dream!) Hannah Hall! Here we go!!!!!” she wrote.
