S.A. Cosby’s All the Sinners Bleed is headed to the small screen.

Netflix is developing a series based on Cosby’s novel, the streaming service announced.

Cosby’s novel, published in 2023 by Flatiron, tells the story of Titus Crown, a Black sheriff in Virginia, who battles racism while on the trail of a mysterious serial killer. A critic for Kirkus called the book, which was shortlisted for an Edgar Award and a Los Angeles Times Book Prize, “another provocative and page-turning entry in the Southern noir genre.”

The nine-episode series will be written by Joe Robert Cole, the screenwriter behind Black Panther and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Cole will also serve as the series’ showrunner and one of its executive producers, and he will direct the first and “select episodes,” according to Netflix.

Cosby will also be an executive producer on the show alongside Amblin Entertainment and Higher Ground Productions, the entertainment company founded by former President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama. Barack Obama included All the Sinners Bleed on his 2023 summer reading list.

Amblin and Higher Ground won an auction for the screen rights to Cosby’s King of Ashes last year. That novel is scheduled for publication in June.
