Doris Kearns Goodwin’s An Unfinished Love Story is headed to the big screen, Deadline reports.

Goodwin’s bestselling memoir, published last April by Simon & Schuster, tells the story of American politics in the 1960s as witnessed by her and her late husband, Richard N. Goodwin, a speechwriter and aide to Presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson. A critic for Kirkus called the book “a heartfelt tribute to the author’s late husband and a captivating reflection on this pivotal era in American politics.”

Producing the film adaptation will be Goodwin; actor Tom Hanks, who has produced movies and series including Band of Brothers, Charlie Wilson’s War, and John Adams; and Barbara Broccoli, best known as a producer of the recent James Bond films.

Goodwin’s books have been adapted for the screen before. Her 2005 book, Team of Rivals, formed the basis for Steven Spielberg’s Oscar-winning film Lincoln, and her 2013 biography of Theodore Roosevelt, The Bully Pulpit, was adapted into the documentary miniseries Theodore Roosevelt.

Broccoli told Deadline, “Through the eyes of friends Dick and Doris Goodwin, it is our plan to bring an intimate story of the people and events of the sweeping decade of the 1960s to the screen—a time that despite its sorrows was filled with the widespread conviction that individuals could make a difference. Doris writing this profoundly moving book—romantic and light-hearted yet infused with deep wisdom about America—has provided this opportunity.”
