Good news for parents who are having trouble finding a copy of Ibram X. Kendi’s Antiracist Baby: The popular board book will be published next month in a different format, USA Today reports.
The book was released on Tuesday, and quickly became a huge hit for Penguin Random House imprint Kokila. The board book was out of stock on Amazon, Barnes and Noble and Bookshop.org as of Friday afternoon.
1The new version will be in a picture book format, but will feature the same text and illustrations. It will also contain a new preface by Kendi “outlining questions and discussion starters to encourage conversations about race and racism with young children,” according to the publisher.
Kokila says the book “empowers parents and children to uproot racism in our society and in ourselves, now with added discussion prompts to help readers recognize and reflect on bias in their daily lives.” It’s illustrated by Los Angeles-based artist Ashley Lukashevsky.
Kokila publisher Namrata Tripathi said the imprint is “delighted” to publish the new version of the book.
“I hope that this picture book edition, with its added resource of conversation starters for caregivers and kids about race and racism, can be a helpful tool in the lifelong work of being an antiracist,” Tripathi said.
The picture book version of Antiracist Baby is slated for publication on July 14.
