First lady Melania Trump has released an audiobook edition of her memoir with an artificial-intelligence narrator.

Trump made the announcement on the social platform X, in a post that reads, “A NEW ERA IN PUBLISHING. I am honored to bring you Melania – The AI Audiobook – narrated entirely using artificial intelligence in my own voice. Let the future of publishing begin.” In a short accompanying video, Trump—or her AI doppelgänger—says, “My story, my perspective, the truth.”

Trump, the wife of President Donald Trump, published Melania, her memoir, last October with Skyhorse, a press known for publishing controversial books. A critic for Kirkus called it “a slick, vacuous glimpse into the former first lady’s White House years.”

The AI-narrated audiobook is currently for sale on her website, which reads, “Melania Trump is breaking new ground in publishing with Melania: The Audiobook, created entirely with artificial intelligence audio technology. The narrator is an AI-generated replica of Melania Trump’s voice, created under Mrs. Trump’s direction and supervision.”

The use of AI to narrate audiobooks has been contentious. In 2023, the son of Edward Herrmann acknowledged that his family had given permission for an AI version of the late actor’s voice to be used in audiobooks. And earlier this month, the Amazon-owned company Audible said that it will be using AI to narrate books. Critics have said that AI narration takes work away from professional audiobook narrators.

The audiobook version of Melania is currently only available in English, but Trump’s website says that more languages will follow, starting this fall.
