Blair Underwood will lend his voice to Lionel Richie’s forthcoming memoir, People magazine reports.
The actor will narrate the audiobook edition of Richie’s Truly. The memoir tells the story of Richie’s childhood in Tuskegee, Alabama, and his career as a musician, first with the funk band Commodores and then as the pop star behind blockbuster hit singles such as “All Night Long (All Night),” “You Are,” and “Hello.”
Underwood, known for his roles in series including L.A. Law, Dirty Sexy Money, and Quantico, has previously narrated audiobooks including James Patterson’s Jack and Jill and Zora Neale Hurston’s Moses, Man of the Mountain and The Life of Herod the Great.
Richie will read the introduction to Truly, with Underwood narrating the rest of the memoir.
“It is an absolute honor to share Lionel Richie’s extraordinary and meteoric rise within the music industry but most importantly to introduce you to the exceptional heart and humanity of the man himself,” Underwood told People. “His story is both inspirational and revelatory for all generations.”
Richie shared news of the audiobook on the social platform X, writing, “It was a joy to record a special audio-only intro of the audiobook of my forthcoming memoir, Truly. And it was extra special to collaborate with the one & only @BlairUnderwood, who narrates the audiobook.”
