Cynthia Erivo will share lessons she’s learned throughout her life in a new book coming later this year.
Flatiron will publish the actor and singer’s Simply More: A Book for Anyone Who Has Been Told They’re Too Much in the fall, the press announced in a news release. In the book, Flatiron says, Erivo “draws from her singular experience to show us how to embrace being ‘too much’ and to live up to the fullest iteration of ourselves.”
Erivo acted in television and theater before making her Broadway debut as Celie in the 2015 revival of The Color Purple; she had previously played the role in a London production of the musical. She won a Tony Award for her performance.
She went on to act in movies including Widows and Bad Times at the El Royale. She earned Academy Award nominations for her roles in Harriet, a biopic of Harriet Tubman, and Wicked, the blockbuster film version of the musical based on Gregory Maguire’s novel.
In her book, Flatiron says, Erivo “draws from her experiences running marathons, both real and metaphorical, onstage and onscreen, to show how each challenge can help us. She urges readers to lean into the wisdom of their bodies, to understand and strive for a physical and mental balance. Because when we chase our deepest desires, each small step leads us closer to where we want to go.”
Erivo announced news of her book on Instagram, writing, “I have felt so supported through all of the wonderful and new things I’ve been able to share, and I thought to myself, maybe I can help someone else move through some of the things that they have going on in their lives.…so this book is to help anyone who wants to become even more of the person they are meant to become.
Simply More is slated for publication on November 18.
