Colleen Hoover dominated book sales this year, with six of the top 10 bestselling books of the year bearing her name, Forbes reports.
According to NPD BookScan, a company that tracks book sales, more than half of the bestselling books through the end of November were written by Hoover, who has become phenomenally popular with users of the video sharing service TikTok.
Hoover’s It Ends With Us, published by Atria in 2016, took the No. 1 spot on the list, with her 2018 romantic thriller, Verity, coming in at No. 2.
Her latest novel, It Starts With Us, was ranked No. 4. The book, released in October, set a fiction sales record for Atria, selling more than 800,000 copies through the first day it went on sale.
Hoover’s Ugly Love ranked No. 5 on the list, with Reminders of Him at No. 7 and November 9 at No. 9.
In an October interview with Kirkus, Hoover reflected on her rise to fame, saying, “Surreal is the only way I can describe it. It feels like I’m watching this happen to someone else.…I’ve actually had to refrain from getting online much this year. The attention triggers my anxieties, so while I absolutely love it when friends and family send me fun videos about my books, I definitely don’t go searching it out.”
The other books on the BookScan list were Delia Owens’ Where the Crawdads Sing at No. 3, Taylor Jenkins Reid’s The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo at No. 6, James Clear’s Atomic Habits at No. 8, and Eric Carle’s The Very Hungry Caterpillar at No. 10.
