David Byrne and Hayley Williams will collaborate on an end-credits song for Netflix’s upcoming animated film adaptation of Roald Dahl’s The Twits, Variety reports.
Byrne, who was the frontman for the iconic New Wave band Talking Heads, and Williams, the singer-songwriter for the pop-punk band Paramore, co-wrote “Open the Door” for the film. Byrne also wrote three other songs for the film, “Lullaby,” “The Problem Is You,” and “We’re Not Like Ev’ryone Else.” Byrne and Williams previously collaborated on a track on Byrne’s forthcoming album Who Is the Sky?
Dahl’s children’s book, published in 1981, tells the story of Mr. and Mrs. Twit, a hateful couple who do battle against a family of monkeys and a group of children. A critic for Kirkus said the book “plays shamelessly, and no doubt successfully, to kids’ malicious impulses and unmerciful sense of justice.”
The Twits will include the voices of Margo Martindale, Johnny Vegas, Natalie Portman, Emilia Clarke, and Maitreyi Ramakrishnan. The film is written and directed by Phil Johnston, who co-wrote and co-directed the hit 2018 film Ralph Breaks the Internet.
“This was a fun project,” Byrne said. “Like other Roald Dahl books, this one has its share of dreadful characters — this time two of them are front and center.”
The Twits is scheduled for release on October 17.
