Éanna Hardwicke will narrate the audiobook edition of Intermezzo, the upcoming novel from Irish literary phenom Sally Rooney, Macmillan Audio announced in a news release.
Rooney’s novel follows two brothers navigating their relationship after the death of their father. A critic for Kirkus wrote of the book, “Though not perfect, a clear leap forward for Rooney; her grandmaster status remains intact.”
Intermezzo is the fourth novel from Rooney, who made her literary debut in 2017 with Conversations With Friends, following that up with two big bestsellers, Normal People and Beautiful World, Where Are You.
Irish actor Hardwicke played the character of Rob Hegarty in the miniseries adaptation of Normal People, which starred Paul Mescal and Daisy Edgar-Jones and aired on Hulu and BBC Three in 2020. He has since acted in series including Smother and The Doll Factory.
“I am a huge fan of Sally Rooney's writing,” Hardwicke said in a statement. “She has a beautiful way of bringing us into her characters’ hearts and minds. Normal People, like so many others, played a big part in my life, and I have been moved and transported by each of Sally’s wonderful novels. They do what great stories do: make you laugh, make you cry and—hopefully—see the world a little more vividly afterward. Her writing was a real gift to act, so it is a privilege to get to share in the Intermezzo story and to try and capture Sally’s inimitable voice.”
The print and audio editions of Intermezzo are scheduled for publication on Sept. 24.
