The Mystery Writers of America unveiled the nominees for the 2024 Edgar Allan Poe Awards, which honor excellence in the “mystery, crime, suspense, and intrigue fields.”
In the novel category, James Lee Burke earned a nod for Flags on the Bayou. Burke has been nominated for the prize three other times, winning twice, for Black Cherry Blues and Cimarron Rose. S.A. Cosby, a previous nominee for Razorblade Tears, made this year’s shortlist for All the Sinners Bleed. Colson Whitehead earned his first nomination for Crook Manifesto.
Other nominees in the novel category include Jennifer Cody Epstein for The Madwomen of Paris, Jessica Knoll for Bright Young Women, Michael Koryta for An Honest Man, and William Kent Krueger for The River We Remember.
The nominees in the best first novel by an American author category are The Peacock and the Sparrow by I.S. Berry, The Golden Gate by Amy Chua, Small Town Sins by Ken Jaworowski, The Last Russian Doll by Kristen Loesch, and Murder by Degrees by Ritu Mukerji.
Shortlisted for the best young adult book prize are Girl Forgotten by April Henry, Star Splitter by Matthew J. Kirby, The Sharp Edge of Silence by Cameron Kelly Rosenblum, My Flawless Life by Yvonne Woon, and Just Do This One Thing for Me by Laura Zimmerman.
The winners of the awards will be announced at a ceremony on May 1, at the New York Marriott Marquis Times Square. The full list of nominees is available at the Mystery Writers of America website.
