Rebecca Yarros’ Empyrean series of romantasy books will be adapted into graphic novels, Ten Speed Graphic, Piatkus, and Entangled Publishing announced in a news release.
Yarros’ series, which tells the story of a group of dragon riders at a war college, kicked off in 2023 with Fourth Wing, which became a hit on TikTok and a No. 1 New York Times bestseller. The second novel, Iron Flame, followed later that year, while the third, Onyx Storm, was published in January to record-breaking sales.
Amazon MGM Studios is adapting Fourth Wing as a streaming series, with Anne With an E creator Moira Walley-Beckett on board as showrunner.
The graphic novel series will consist of six volumes, with each of the original books being adapted by Yarros into two novels. No illustrators or publication dates have been announced at this time.
“I couldn’t be more excited to work with the amazing team at Ten Speed on this project,” Yarros said in a statement. “There is something so special about seeing your words come to life through art and I feel fortunate to have that experience in this medium. I can’t wait to dig in with the talented team of artists and editors to create a truly one-of-a-kind experience for readers.”
Kaitlin Ketchum, the editorial director for Ten Speed Graphic, said, “Ten Speed is so honored to collaborate with Rebecca and Entangled to create graphic adaptations that the incredible Empyrean fan community will love—true to the original books, stunning to look at, and additive to the reading experience in the way that only graphic storytelling can be.”
