Geronimo Stilton is headed to the big screen, Deadline reports.
Radar Pictures is developing a film based on the series of Italian children’s books written by Elisabetta Dami under the name Geronimo Stilton, which is also the moniker of the hero, a mouse who is also a journalist.
Dami’s series kicked off in 1997 with Lost Treasure of the Emerald Eye, published in 2004 in the U.S. Scores of books followed, including a series of graphic novels (The Sewer Rat Stink, Slime for Dinner), written with and illustrated by Tom Angleberger.
The film adaptation, which will follow the title character on the trail of a massive conspiracy, will be written and directed by David Soren (Turbo, Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie).
“I’m excited to be working with Radar Pictures to bring this incredibly popular book series to life,” Soren said. “Geronimo Stilton is beloved around the world, and it’s high time for his first hilarious, feature film adventure.”
Producer Anthony Tringali said that the Geronimo Stilton books “are so wonderfully witty and you immediately fall in love with the character.”
“The movie will bring audiences of all ages on an unforgettable and hilarious journey full of action, heart, and mousy misadventures,” Tringali said.
