Melville House will publish former special counsel Jack Smith’s report on the federal criminal investigations of President-elect Donald Trump, the independent press announced in a news release.
The press is “crashing” into print The Jack Smith Report: Final Report on Efforts to Interfere With the Lawful Transfer of Power Following the 2020 Presidential Election by Donald Trump and Others. The report was released to the public Tuesday on the Justice Department’s website.
Smith was appointed special counsel of the Trump investigations in 2022 by Attorney General Merrick Garland. Smith looked into Trump’s storage of classified documents at his Florida home, Mar-a-Lago, as well as into Trump’s role in the Jan. 6 Capitol insurrection. After Trump’s election last November, the cases against him were dismissed.
Smith’s report deals with the Jan. 6 charges, which, he says, would have ended in a conviction if Trump had not been reelected. Smith also wrote a report about the classified documents case that has not yet been released to the public.
Dennis Johnson, the publisher of Melville House, said he hopes to have the book available for purchase shortly after Trump is inaugurated on Jan. 20.
“The first 100 days of a presidential administration are usually very telling for what’s to come,” Johnson said. “We felt this report should be part of the telling. In a time of book banning, and with Trump threatening to sue publishers if they publish books that are critical of him, we were concerned that all the intimidation would limit the circulation of this report, especially to people who prefer print books.”
