Jennifer Saunders has joined the cast of The Magic Faraway Tree, the upcoming film based on Enid Blyton’s children’s novel, Deadline reports.

Blyton’s book, published in 1943, is the second in her Faraway Tree series of novels, which debuted in 1939 with The Enchanted Wood. The books follow three children who come across a tall tree that is home to a magical land.

Saunders, known for her work on the comedy series French and Saunders and Absolutely Fabulous, will star as the grandmother of the three children, according to Variety. Also joining the cast are Hiran Abeysekera (Find Me in Paris) and Pippa Bennett-Warner (Gangs of London).

The film will be written by Simon Farnaby (Wonka) and directed by Ben Gregor (Fatherhood). Previously announced cast members include Andrew Garfield (The Eyes of Tammy Faye, Under the Banner of Heaven), Claire Foy (Women Talking, The Crown) and Nicola Coughlan (Derry Girls, Bridgerton).

Pippa Harris, a producer of the film, said, “Just when we thought our casting line-up couldn’t get any more thrilling, we have been joined by these hugely gifted actors. I know they will bring wit, wonder, and warmth to their performances and we’re delighted that they are joining us for this magical adventure.”
