U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson earned more than $2 million from her memoir, CNN reports.
Jackson, who was appointed to the court by former President Joe Biden and confirmed by the U.S. Senate in 2022, reported the earnings in her annual financial disclosure. She had previously earned almost $900,000 on the memoir.
Random House published the justice’s Lovely One last September. A reviewer for Kirkus called the book “well-written, intriguing” and “terrific.”
Two other justices, Sonia Sotomayor and Neil Gorsuch, also reported income from books in their disclosures. Sotomayor earned almost $135,000 from the various books she has written, including a memoir, My Beloved World; and four children’s books, Turning Pages, illustrated by Lulu Delacre; Just Ask!, illustrated by Rafael López; Just Help!, illustrated by Angela Dominguez; and the forthcoming Just Shine!, illustrated by Jacqueline Alcántara.
Gorsuch earned more than $250,000 in royalties from his books, which include A Republic, if You Can Keep It and Over Ruled: The Human Cost of Too Much Law.
Other sitting Supreme Court justices to have written books include Clarence Thomas (My Grandfather’s Son) and Amy Coney Barrett, whose Listening to the Law is slated for publication in September by Sentinel.
