Matthew McConaughey will share his thoughts on faith and spirituality in a new book.

Crown will publish the actor’s Poems & Prayers in the fall, the press announced in a news release. It calls the book “an inspiring, faith-filled, and often hilarious collection of personal poetry and prayers about navigating the rodeo of life and chasing down the original dream, belief.”

McConaughey, known for his roles in films including Dazed and Confused, Magic Mike, and Dallas Buyers Club, is the author of two previous books, the self-help memoir Greenlights and the children’s book Just Because, illustrated by Renée Kurilla.

His new book, Crown says, “includes writings inspired by both proverbs and the Old Testament, daydreams in shady south-of-the-border hammocks and in Australian bathtubs with Lord Byron, nightmares we can’t outrun, 400,000 miles traveled in an Airstream, the gifts of guilty stress, a court appearance to restrain a stalker, Matthew’s desire to be the best friend, husband, father, and man he can be, and more.”

McConaughey announced the new book in a video posted to the social platform X. “This is a book about belief,” he said. “It’s a book full of ditties and devotions that I’ve been writing since 1989. Words and rhymes that I scribbled on napkins, recorded into microphones, words and rhymes I prayed on bended knee at many a bedside, dinner table, and church pew. Some came from scars that I’ve earned, yeah. Some were whispered in my ear on lonely, cold nights, and some came from the bloody tongue of a nightmare that I could not outrun.”

Poems & Prayers is scheduled for publication on September 16.
