Joe Hill will release his first novel in nearly a decade later this year, Today.com reports.

William Morrow will publish the horror and fantasy author’s King Sorrow in the fall. The press describes the book as “a chilling tale of modern-world dangers, dark academia, and the unexpected consequences of revenge.”

Hill, the son of authors Stephen and Tabitha King and the brother of author Owen King, published his first book, the short story collection 20th Century Ghosts, in 2005 in the U.K, and in 2007 in the U.S; that same year he published his first novel, Heart-Shaped Box. His other novels include Horns, NOS4A2, The Fireman, and Full Throttle.

King Sorrow, which weighs in at just under 900 pages, will tell the story of six friends in Maine who decide to summon a dragon using a rare book; the dragon demands a human sacrifice every year.

King Sorrow has a big cast of characters and takes place across nearly 25 years of recent American history,” King told Today.com. “I tried to pack everything I knew about frightening stories into it. It’s a big scaly beast of a novel.”

King announced his new novel on the social platform X, writing, “Here’s the cover of my next novel, King Sorrow and a bit about what to expect. It’s out in October and available for preorder with all the usual suspects. My thanks to Today for making a nice little splash out of the cover reveal.”

King Sorrow is scheduled for publication on Oct. 21.
