Tana French will conclude her Cal Hooper trilogy of novels with a book coming in 2026.
Viking will publish the American Irish author’s The Keeper next spring, the press announced in a news release. It calls the novel “a masterwork of atmospheric suspense that brings the story of one of her most beloved characters to a spellbinding conclusion.”
French started her career as an actor and made her literary debut in 2007 with In the Woods, the first installment in her Dublin Murder Squad series about a group of Irish homicide detectives. The series encompasses six novels, the most recent of which, The Trespasser, was published in 2016.
In 2020, she published The Searcher, which introduced readers to Cal Hooper, an American police officer who has retired to western Ireland, and is roped into trying to solve the disappearance of a local youth. Hooper returned in French’s 2024 novel, The Hunter.
In The Keeper, Hooper investigates the death of Rachel Holohan, a girl whose body is found in a river. His involvement in the case threatens his relationship with his fiancée, who is wary of the split that the girl’s death has caused in the community. “French delivers not only a masterful finale, but the crime fiction event of the season,” Viking says.
The Keeper is slated for publication on March 31, 2026.
