Reese Witherspoon has selected Emily Henry’s Great Big Beautiful Life as the latest pick for her book club.
Henry’s novel, published Tuesday by Berkley, follows two journalists, Alice Scott and Hayden Anderson, who are competing to write a biography of Margaret Ives, a reclusive heiress. While meeting with Margaret on an island off the Georgia coast, the two find themselves drawn to each other. A critic for Kirkus called the novel “both a steamy romance and a moving look at the sacrifices people make for love.”
Witherspoon announced the book’s selection on Instagram, in a post featuring a video with her and Henry communicating with each other via a series of large white cards with black text. In the caption, Witherspoon wrote, “The May @reesesbookclub pick has arrived a little early and it’s a mystery, romance, and thriller all rolled into one captivating story!…I won’t give away any spoilers, but trust me, it’s so good!”
Also on Instagram, Henry wrote, “Thank you to @reesewitherspoon @reesesbookclub and the Reese’s book club authors for welcoming me with open arms and helping introduce Alice, Hayden, and Margaret to a whole new readership. I really love them and I hope you do too.”
