Lionsgate Television is developing a series based on Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight series of novels, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Meyer’s novels follow the romance between Bella Swan, a teenage girl who falls in love with Edward Cullen, a century-old vampire in the town of Forks, Washington. The series kicked off in 2005 with Twilight, and three other novels followed: New Moon, Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn. Meyer also wrote a gender-swapped version of Twilight, as well as a companion novel to the series.

The books were massive bestsellers, and spawned a series of films based on them, starring Kristen Stewart as Bella and Robert Pattinson as Edward. The first film in the series was released in 2008, with the final one coming out in 2012. Like the novels, the films were hugely successful.

According to the Reporter, Sinead Daly (Raised by Wolves, The Walking Dead: World Beyond) will write the series, and Meyer would have some involvement in the adaptation. No network is attached to the planned series.

The report of the adaptation comes just one week after Warner Bros. Discovery announced that it would adapt J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter novels as a series for its streaming service Max. Rowling’s books, like Meyer’s, were previously adapted into a series of blockbuster films.

On Twitter, news of the planned Twilight series was met with skepticism, with one user writing, “The oldest twilight movie isn’t even old enough to drive and y’all wanna fuck w that legacy???” Another tweeted, “if you ignore the twilight reboot it doesn’t exist.”
