The second season of Shadow and Bone, the Netflix series based on Leigh Bardugo’s fantasy novels, will be based on multiple books by the fantasy author, Entertainment Weekly reports.
The first season of the series, which premiered in April of 2021, was based on Bardugo’s novels Shadow and Bone and Six of Crows. The books are from different series, although both are set in the Grishaverse, Bardugo’s shared universe.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the second season will draw from Siege and Storm and Ruin and Rising, the two sequels to the novel Shadow and Bone.
The show’s first season followed Alina Starkov, played by Jessie Mei Li, an orphan who learns that she belongs to a people with special, magical gifts. The eight-episode season was met with mostly positive reviews from critics, including David Rapp of Kirkus, who called it “an engaging show that will satisfy longtime fans and serve a fine introduction to Bardugo’s sprawling fictional world.”
The show is developed by Eric Heisserer, and also stars Ben Barnes (The Chronicles of Narnia), Archie Renaux (Morbius), Freddy Carter (Wonder Woman), Amita Suman (Doctor Who), and Kit Young (The School for Good and Evil).
The second season of Shadow and Bone is scheduled to premiere on March 16, 2023.
