Simu Liu will star in a series based on Ben Mezrich’s adventure novel, Seven Wonders, Deadline reports.
Amazon Prime Video is developing the adaptation of Mezrich’s 2014 book about a man who travels the globe to find out why his estranged brother was murdered. A critic for Kirkus wrote of the novel, “A comiclike outing rich in repetition and clichés, this typing exercise is at heart an intriguing story that deserved a writer who could rise at least to the level of a Dan Brown, yet another Mezrich creditor.”
Liu (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) will play the main character of the show and will also serve as an executive producer. The series will be directed by Justin Lin (The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift) and adapted for the screen by Adam Cozad (Underwater).
The series isn’t the only project based on one of Mezrich’s books that’s currently in the works. His 2021 nonfiction book, The Antisocial Network, is being adapted into a film, Dumb Money, starring Pete Davidson, Shailene Woodley, and Seth Rogen.
Mezrich announced the series on Instagram, writing, “Yay this one is huge!…It’s my take on Indiana Jones, and I can’t imagine a better person to make this his own than @simuliu, one of my favorite actors!!!”
Liu also weighed in on the social media platform, writing, “Stepping into the executive producer role for the first time to bring this massive globetrotting adventure to life alongside one of the most formidable creative teams ever assembled…Let’s dive in and do something extraordinary!!”
