Yet another show based on a Stephen King story is in the works—and fans will find its setting very familiar.
Premium-cable network Epix has ordered a TV series based on King’s short story “Jerusalem’s Lot,” according to Variety. Oscar-winning actor Adrien Brody will star as the main character, Charles Boone. The story is a prequel to King’s popular 1975 vampire novel ’Salem’s Lot, which was adapted for television in 1979 and 2004.
In the original tale, which first appeared in the 1978 collection Night Shift, Boone arrives to take over the mansion of a dead family member, located near the town of Preacher’s Corners, Maine, in 1850. In the creepy, old house, Boone and his servant find a map to a mysterious village called Jerusalem’s Lot. They find the town apparently completely deserted, but when Boone looks deeper into its past, he discovers terrible horrors, which are related to his own unsettling family history. Variety reports that the new show will feature some new characters, including Boone’s three young children; it’s expected to air next fall.
The town of Jerusalem’s Lot recently appeared in the second season of the King-related Hulu TV series Castle Rock, which came out earlier this year.
Brody won an Oscar for his role as Polish musician and Holocaust survivor Władysław Szpilman in the 2002 film The Pianist, which was based on Szpilman’s 1946 memoir of the same name. He will soon star as playwright Arthur Miller in the upcoming film Blonde, which is based on Joyce Carol Oates’ 2000 novel about the life and career of Marilyn Monroe.
