Twentieth Century Studios dropped a trailer for The Boogeyman, the upcoming film based on a short story by Stephen King, Deadline reports.
King’s story was originally published in 1973 by the men’s magazine Cavalier and was reprinted in Night Shift, the author’s 1977 collection. It follows two young siblings whose lives are thrown into turmoil by an evil force brought into their home by a patient of their psychiatrist father.
The trailer for the film opens with Chris Messina, playing Will, the psychiatrist, tucking his daughter Sawyer, played by Vivien Lyra Blair, into bed, and doing a “monster check” in the girl’s closet. Sawyer starts to fall asleep when she’s startled by the closet door opening and then slamming shut. It ends with a shot of Sawyer standing in the house as a shadowy figure appears behind her.
The film is directed by Rob Savage, who helmed the 2020 pandemic-themed horror movie Host, and written by Scott Beck (A Quiet Place), Bryan Woods (Haunt), and Mark Heyman (Black Swan).
Other cast members include Sophie Thatcher (Yellowjackets), David Dastmalchian (Dune), Marin Ireland (Hell or High Water), LisaGay Hamilton (The Practice), and Madison Hu (Voyagers).
The Boogeyman is scheduled for a theatrical release on June 2.
